Tower Maintenance

On March 10th we began the painting of our 200 foot Radio transmission tower in Conaree St. Kitts. The tower is located a few hundred feet from the Ocean on the Atlantic side of the Island. The close proximity of the tower to the Ocean means that it experiences constant sea blast. The moist, salty air accelerates metal corrosion on the tower. Without proper maintenance the structure would eventually collapse because of the corrosive conditions.

We are scraping off the corrosion and as much of the old flaky paint as possible. We will have 2 coats of a marine rust inhibitor applied, followed by a macropoxy primer and then finally a polyurethane topcoat.
Our budget for this particular job is EC$35,000.00 and we plan to have it complete by the end of March. Using new, better techniques and materials for painting the tower, we plan to eliminate the need to paint this tower 3 times per year as in the past. This means we save around EC$105,000.00 a year after it is painted. We project that we will only need to repaint the tower every 5 years or so. The tower will be inspected annually.

While this work is being carried out the transmitter must be turned off. Radio Paradise will be off-air weekdays and Saturdays while work is carried out 8 AM - 3 PM. Please listen to us on the internet through our website: www.radioparadiseonline.com 24/7.
We would like to say a special thank-you to those who donated to Radio Paradise during our Spring Radio-Thon. Your continued prayers and financial contributions are what make our Radio Broadcast possible. Contributions help pay for important projects like this one.

Re-Claim Property!

The property our Radio Tower sits on is approximately 5 acres of land. This land has always been overgrown with tall hard grass, thick brush and swamp trees. We are in the process of removing the brush and most trees along with getting the grass properly cut so it can be maintained properly in the future. This project commenced March 10th 2009.
After we get all the brush and tall hard grass under control we will properly fence the property and plant shade trees. Some additional landscaping is planned which will include the planting of some ornamental shrubs to help beautify the property.

Our goal is to make the Radio Paradise property in Conaree St. Kitts a beautiful well kept landmark while providing a place to host Church and Community-related activities. We believe that we are practicing good stewardship in making sure this property is properly maintained and used for not only our tower and transmission building but also in ways that benefits the local Community and Churches.

Generator Purchase

Radio Paradise will be purchasing a back-up Generator for the AM Radio Transmitter site in Conaree St. Kitts.
We say 'thank you' to all those who gave financially towards this particular project.
More information will be provided on this project in the next issue of our News letter.
